Murugan is one of the two sons of Shiva and Parvati - the other being Ganesha. Where Ganesha is round, rooted, and ancient-seeming, Murugan is perpetually young, perpetually moving, and carries a spear. He is known by many names: Kartikeya, Skanda, and Subramanya.
